Der Name Unije leitet sich vom griechischen Wort „heneios“ ab, was Feld bedeutet. Ein kroatisches \u00c4quivalent des Namens w\u00e4re demnach „Upolje“, was so viel wie „auf dem Feld“ bedeutet. <\/span><\/p>\n

Die ersten Informationen \u00fcber Unije stammen von dem venezianischen Jesuiten Alberto Fortis in seinem ber\u00fchmten Werk „Reise durch Dalmatien“ aus dem Jahr 1774. In Unije gibt es nur wenige Einwohner, die einen bescheidenen Lebensstil pflegen. Die Hauptprodukte sind Holz, Honig und Wachs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Das Meer rund um die Insel ist reich an Fischen, vor allem Thunfisch, Makrele, Sardelle und auch Tintenfisch.
